For the older young adult -- there is never any fear that the heroine will be in real danger. The characters are harmless, not really enough depth to call them likable. An interesting post-apocalyptic world, with the high-tech City and rural Utopias -- not all of which are utopian. The central SF idea is genetic manipulation, and whether or not a modified person is still human.
